With an endowed scholarship, part of the gift supports students each year, while the remainder stays invested to grow over time. The result is a permanent source of funding to provide scholarships forever.
For many students, endowed scholarship support becomes part of their life story - the moment someone believed in their potential.
Each donor-funded scholarship has a unique motivation. Below are a few of the many endowed scholarships that benefactors have entrusted to St. Thomas.

The Lorenz Family Endowed Scholarship supports graduate students in the School of Professional Psychology at the Morrison Family College of Health who have financial need.

Donor: Edmund J. Nightingale, Ph.D. ’63
Established: 2019
The Marie Arcara Nightingale Scholarship in Nursing was established in memory of Marie Arcara Nightingale, RN, BSN, MSN, to support undergraduate students who declared a major in nursing and who have financial need.
Marie Nightingale was a first-generation college student who pursued education to advance her career in the service of others. Marie was a nurse, educator, group and family therapist, psychologist and consultant.

Established: 2016
The Kitty Havlik Endowed Scholarship was established to support students participating in a study abroad program at St. Thomas who have financial need.
Kitty’s son, Timothy, established this scholarship in his mother’s memory to carry on her legacy and assist students with travel- and study-abroad aspirations.

The Kathleen and Jon Ballou Endowed Scholarship was established to support undergraduate students with financial need who are the first generation in their family to attend college.

Through careful design and collaboration with staff and faculty, the university is grateful to support several four-year scholarships that include specific programming, mentorship and a cohort model to create a community of scholars and leaders.
This program provides scholarship support and meaningful opportunities for students with financial need who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership, service and social justice.
Reflecting the spirit of Gerry Rauenhorst, founder of The Opus Group, GHR Fellows receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships and access to transformative leadership, global learning, career development and service experiences.
This program provides four-year, full-tuition scholarships to students pursuing entrepreneurship at St. Thomas with individualized mentoring, hands-on learning, internships and networking opportunities.
