Parent and Family Giving

Tommie parents and families have a long tradition of supporting student success.

The St. Thomas experience isn’t just for students! As parents and family members, it’s natural to share in the interests of your children and loved ones. While college is a time to pull back and let your students use their wings, you still want to be a part of the new world they are experiencing.

St. Thomas has resources and opportunities to be involved in the university and support your student’s education.

A Tradition of Giving Back

Support from current and past parents is an important part of what enables us to make the St. Thomas experience so transformative and valuable for students.

From Fall 2022 to Spring 2024, 1,544 parent households with students attending St. Thomas made gifts totaling nearly $3.6 million to support scholarships and other areas that matched their passions. One in four of our parent donors sign up to make regular monthly sustaining gifts.

We are grateful and invite you to join other parents and family members in making a gift.

Areas of Need at St. Thomas

Join other parents in making a gift to St. Thomas to support an area that interests you – whether it’s a particular major, area of study, athletic team or scholarship for students with financial need.

Make a Parent Capstone Gift

A capstone gift is a gift that many parents make in honor of their graduating student. This is an opportunity to pass along St. Thomas parents’ long tradition of giving to the next generation. Many parents choose to involve their student in choosing a gift designation that has special meaning for their student, whether it's to support a scholarship, a program within their major, an athletic team or an extracurricular club.

Support Student Scholarships

For many students, cost is the sole barrier to attending college. Scholarships are the great equalizer, opening the door for all students of promise.

Give to the St. Thomas Parent Fund

The quickest way to make an impact is through the St. Thomas Parent Fund. Contributions to this fund work immediately to support the greatest need at the university. Many parents sign up to make regular monthly sustaining gifts.

Join the Parent & Family Philanthropic Council

The Parent and Family Philanthropic Council is a dedicated community of St. Thomas families who are passionate about advancing the mission of St. Thomas for their students and future Tommies.

Participants in the council receive invitations to special events featuring key university leaders, where they can socialize and build relationships with fellow Tommie families who share a love for St. Thomas.

Faculty, staff and students gather to celebrate a transformational $25.5M multi-faceted gift from an anonymous donor, benefiting the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, and athletics scholarships for CAS students. The event took place on May 14, 2025, in St. Paul. Camryn Rintoul ‘25 and parents

On Tommie Give Day, our largest day of annual giving each November, parents, grandparents and family members who contribute generously to the Tommie Parent Impact Challenge are instrumental in inspiring other families to make their gifts.

In 2025, parents and grandparents made up 30% of Tommie Give Day donors, giving more than $704,000 and unlocking nearly $200,000 in Tommie Parent Impact Challenge dollars.
