Living Out the Mission

Inspired by the Catholic intellectual tradition and grounded in our convictions, the University of St. Thomas educates students to be morally responsible leaders — thinking critically, acting wisely, and working skillfully to advance the common good.

The Office for Mission brings this vision to life by integrating our Catholic identity into all aspects of university life. Through Campus Ministry, students deepen their faith, find belonging, and develop as leaders for the common good. Through the Center for the Common Good, students engage in ethical action and community partnerships — locally, nationally, and globally. We also support the holistic formation of faculty and staff, offering opportunities for reflection, mission integration, and justice-centered professional development.

Your investment in the Office for Mission fuels student engagement and success, enriches the spiritual and intellectual life of our campus, and advances a shared commitment to compassion, justice, and the common good.

All for the Common Good

The Spiritual Heart of Campus

Iversen Center for Faith

The Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas and the Iversen Center for Faith (ICF) are the spiritual heart of campus. They provide sacred space for prayer, worship and reflection, welcoming people of all faiths. The ICF houses Campus Ministry, the Hoedeman Gallery of Sacred Art, and areas for interfaith meditation and community connection.

Opened in 2020 through donor support, the ICF adjoins the renovated Chapel, restoring it as a central place for spiritual life and community. This project created essential space for faith development, dialogue and belonging – ensuring the chapel and ICF remain a cornerstone of the St. Thomas student experience.

Support Key Areas of Need

Our rich Catholic tradition is made possible by your generosity.

Campus Ministry Retreats

Campus Ministry invites students into spaces of rest, reflection and spiritual growth through a variety of retreats offered throughout the year. These experiences provide meaningful opportunities to pause, pray and connect – deepening faith and building community in the midst of college life. Your gift ensures more students can access these formative moments, regardless of financial barriers.

Center for the Common Good

The Center for the Common Good connects students with opportunities to engage in ethical volunteering and community partnerships – locally, nationally, and globally. As demand for volunteer opportunities grows, so does the need for reliable transportation. Your support helps us build a fleet of vehicles that removes barriers and expands student access to meaningful engagement across the Twin Cities and beyond.

VISION Immersion Trips

VISION trips offer students transformative volunteer immersion experiences rooted in justice, reflection and solidarity. Through national and international partnerships, students engage with pressing social issues and return with a deeper commitment to the common good. Your gift makes these life-changing journeys accessible to more Tommies, forming compassionate leaders for a more just world.

Faculty and Staff Development

The Office for Mission equips faculty and staff with meaningful opportunities to reflect on and live out the university’s Catholic mission. From new faculty retreats and monthly discussions to the Engaging the Mission seminar in Rome, these formation experiences cultivate leadership, deepen understanding of Catholic social teaching, and foster a mission-centered campus culture. Your support helps shape educators and professionals who guide students with wisdom, integrity, and purpose.

Emilia Zuniga speaks from a podium in front of a crowd at the Inter-faith blessing and assembly in the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex at the University of St. Thomas.
“Campus Ministry has been a place where I’ve found a community, deepened my faith and discovered a strong sense of purpose during my time at St. Thomas. Through CaFE y Amigos, I’ve felt truly seen, supported, and celebrated for who I am.”

The St. Thomas Liturgical Choir performs at Orchestra Hall for the yearly Christmas Concert in 2020.
“Being part of the Liturgical Choir has deeply shaped and strengthened my relationship with God. When we sing at Mass, even though we can’t always see the congregation’s reactions, we can feel the impact – there is a shared sense of reverence, connection and spiritual presence that fills the space.”
